![]() "The Shadows On Bayou Teche", oil on canvas, 20" x 24". Artists have flocked to New Orleans for over two hundred years, and have included the likes of Edgar Degas. Labeled as "the City that care forgot", New Orleans has a relaxed atmosphere that stimulates the artistic creative process. The French Quarter has the charm of old Europe, while the Garden Districts evokes the character of the Antebellum South. It is no wonder that one finds painters setting their easels throughout the city, around the French Quarter, and around Jackson Square, the heart of the French Quarter. The city has a vast number of galleries and one of the countries best art museums, The New Orleans Museum of Fine Art. It is not surprising that in a city with a long history and culture immersed in the arts, its native-born artists would look inward for their inspiration. Stanley Beck has never had to go far to find inspiring subjects for his paintings. |
